Identification

Gray, silver, cinnamon, white and black markings characterize these distinctive nocturnal foxes that are sometimes mistaken for coyotes but have much bushier tails with black tips. They are secretive and solitary in nature and the only fox known to climb trees. Tracks may appear similar to domestic cats. They do not move well in deep snow and their range is generally 2-5 square kilometers depending on habitat.

Description
Generally live in pairs to raise young in opportunistic dens. One litter of 2-5 pups is typically born in the spring or early summer after a 60 day gestation.
