Tailless, short-legged rodent with relatively large ears. Typically found at higher elevations of the American west in rocky shale settings. Usually travel solo but emit loud screams to communicate with others. Travel well in snowy conditions.
Found only in the Northern most parts of North America in the Arctic. Fur changes from commonly recognized white in the winter to brown-gray in the summer for seasonal camouflage. Males are larger than females. Live in dens with many entrances. Harsh environments cause shortened life spans of only 3-4 years.
